pianodisc midi file playback?

I have the Pianodisc 228CFX. I can put midi files on a floppy disc and get them to play on my piano using the GNMIDI program to modify the midi file to be compatible with the Pianodisc system. However, I'd like to be able to play back the background instruments or orchestral accompaniment on the speakers. Right now it won't do that. It seems to be playing every note on the piano itself. Has anyone had success doing that?
