I am refinishing an Antique piano stool?

Stripping chemicals or a heat gun, both will work. My preference is using a heat gun as it reduces the risk of damage to the grain of the wood. Make certain to sand the piano stool, first with a coarse grade sandpaper and then with a very fine grade of sandpaper.
For a finish - it really depends on what you want. An oil base that will be soaked into the wood is a good start, with a French-wax finish can look wonderful. Once you're done, when it comes time for dusting, don't use sprays such as Pledge on your antique furniture. These dusting sprays tend to build up a layer on top of the furniture and ruin the patina.
