Yamaha Clavinova CLP 311?
A teacher of mine recently purchased a newer digital piano, and is willing to sell me his old Clavinova CLP-311, and I was wondering how much one would expect a used one for, if anyone could provide me some info. He's asking around $800, and in fairness, it was recently fully repaired and made essentially brand new. But still, i know that it's an old model so I'd like some feedback. Anything to help would be great!
It would be good if the teacher can produce the original receipt price. 2nd hand stuff after 1-2 years will only command a third of the original receipt price. It isn't as if you're buying a piano. A digital piano is kinda like a computer, it doesn't hold its value, even if the functionality is still there. Sorry to say.
Just for your information, you should browse a Yamaha official showroom, and ask the staff how much you could expect to trade-in the model your teacher is desirous in selling you.
In Singapore, the same model, 2nd hand, would only go for CAN$400-500.
But truth be told, do you really need to buy a new digital piano? It may have more functions, but look at your current model, is the depth and response of the touch similar? Will you be motivated to learn better with the one your teacher has? Will you feel anything more than a pang of regret if the teacher tells you s/he has sold the piano to some other student?
If so, then maybe you should invest in one. I personally wouldn't because there is no hurry, and people always make impulse buys. The repairs shouldn't be an issue. You're just paying for the labour cost of the repairs. And labour is expensive. It doesn't add to the value of the digital piano and the price you have to pay.
