Chair!!!!!?
I use a kitchen chair at home instead of the normal piano bench I have because it's too high (I'm really tall). And at my teacher's house, she's got this adjustable chair that goes really down, so I can find a really good position for my height, but the problem is concerts and auditions. Are there light, adjustable chairs that can be easily packed and carried around?
At first, I thought it would be really stupid, but I was reading about Glen Gould and he had his own chair and carried it with himself around and I don't mind looking more unusual than I already am. Any ideas????
I had an audition and it was very frustrating because I had to slouch and the dean of the academy was the judge. I couldn't ask him to go get me a lower chair.

You can definitely ask at an audition for an adjustable bench. It is surprising that at an audition they do not have 2 or 3 benches or chairs available considering they know they will get students who want to sit at various heights.
There are no light adjustable chairs that you can pack and carry around. My chair cost over $1000 but I don't carry it around. Its quite heavy and I do not want to lug that thing around. I know that where ever I perform they will have a chair or bench that is adjustable. Glenn Gould had a Steinway chair of which he sawed on parts of the legs to get the right height.
You should purchase an adjustable bench for your home - they can be as cheap as $300 but what makes a bench good is the mechanics inside. You want the heavy duty hardware that adjusts. Cheap ones the parts wear quickly when you adjust. I have a bench that is adjustable and I use that for teaching as well. That bench is ridiculously heavy as well but it is worth the investment. Next time before you enter the audition, ask the proctor if they have adjustable benches or call a day in advance to request one. All auditions I have been to or sat in on have adjustable benches. But its good to check the day before and request, then when you arrive ask the proctor to set it up for you.
